Tocumen International Airport awards new electric works for US $ 10 million

The Tocumen International Airport ("Airport"), through public tender, awarded Sampol Ingeniería y Obras S.A., an energy generation back-up project for US $ 10 million.

The generator project will be installed in Terminal 2 of the Airport and will be connected to the new electrical substation of the Terminal and will supply the medium voltage substations of the Airport.

Multinational companies invest US$ 820 million in Panama

As a result of the 134 headquarters of multinational companies established in the Panamanian isthmus, 5,500 jobs have been generated and increased foreign direct investment by US$ 820 million

Representatives of the Ministry of Trade and Industry reveal that foreign direct investment in Panama grew by 17% in the third quarter of 2016. This was the result of the approval of 25 new licenses for the establishment of headquarters of multinational companies.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industries predicts that the country's economic growth and competitive advantages will make the Republic of Panama the option for the establishment of new headquarters of multinational companies in Latin America.

Software for electronic invoicing will be free for small and medium businesses.

 The General Directorate of Revenue ("DGI") will provide free to small and medium-sized companies the automation program that will allow the operation of the electronic invoice.

The DGI informed that the electronic invoice is in the period of design, any suggestion from the merchants will be received through the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Panama.

Likewise, they foresee that the incorporation of the electronic invoice to the stores will be from 2018 and mandatory starting in 2019.

Panama Canal achieves new record

 The Panama Canal ("Canal"), exceeded its figures with 1,481,757 tons carried over in a single day, according to the volume measurement system of the Canal's universal tonnage system ("Vessel System").

Thanks to the Vessel System, the Canal Authority can establish the number of vessels transiting through the inter-oceanic route, which, up to the fiscal period October 30, 2016 to September 30, 2016, it carried 13,114 vessels representing 330.7 million tons.

Of this total of vessels, 238 were Neopanamax vessels that transited through the enlarged Canal in the first three months of operation, with a total of 18.2 million tons.

Hydroelectric project explores storing energy in the region

Celsia Centroamérica, manager of the Dos Mares hydroelectric complex, located in Chiriquí province, reported that along with Canada's Advanced Energy Center, it is exploring technologies to store energy in Panama and other countries.

In this alliance, Canada's Advanced Energy Center will establish with Celsia Centroamérica their perspectives on (i) the development of energy storage in Latin America; And (ii) identify and analyze the technological, regulatory, economic and environmental factors that affect the viability of projects in these markets.

In addition, they plan that the results of the study be oriented to technical aspects and economic and regulatory mechanisms that make viable the technology in the geography of operation of Celsia Central America, with the purpose of finding applicable solutions in the interconnected systems to solve the supply of residential, industrial and local government customers.
